Police briefs: 4 sentenced to prison for 2009 robbery PDF Print E-mail

Three men have been sentenced to long prison terms for robbing the Petro Plus station on Millennium Highway in February 2009.

On Sept. 16, Louis Francis Jr., Jo’Ram Rigby and Miguel Desmangles were all sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Stanley Wilson was sentenced to 13 years.

The four were armed with guns and cutlasses when the robbed the station at about 2:40 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2009. The men were caught after a chase to Leeward Highway, where Wilson was wounded in the buttocks.

Several subjects charged for cannabis found on boat

A number of people have been charged after law enforcement officers found cannabis aboard the “Sweet Charlotte” in the South Dock port on Sept. 10.

The people were charged with attempted fraudulent evasion of a prohibited good namely cannabis, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply or transfer.

The charges were made as part of the ongoing investigation into the “Sweet Charlotte,” which may be connected to the drowning of 10 Haitians who were trying to sneak into the country aboard a smaller boat.

Four men and six women drowned when they were being transferred from a commercial vessel to shore by a smaller boat. The bodies were recovered Sept. 11.
