Police briefs: Man questioned in Grand Turk sex crimes PDF Print E-mail

Detectives are questioning a man about a series of sexual assaults and burglaries in Grand Turk.

The unnamed suspect was arrested March 20 and is being held at the island’s police headquarters in Cockburn Town.

“Following a reported burglary and attempted sexual assault that took place on Saturday (March 17), a man was arrested and is now being questioned,” said Deputy Commissioner Brad Sullivan.

“As a result of this apprehension, Grand Turk officers, supported by members of the Sexual Offences/Domestic Violence Unit, are reviewing a number of unsolved burglaries and sexual assaults for similarities to this latest incident.”

Police said a 15-year-old girl was asleep in bed when an intruder burst through her locked bedroom door at the property on Old Airport Road at about 3:40 a.m. on March 17.

Break-ins reported, weapon seized in Leeward Palms

Thieves made off with more than $3,500 worth of items following a break-in at a house on Palms Circle in Leeward Palms over the March 17 weekend, police said.

Items taken included an iPod, jewelry, a digital camera, DVDs and a U.S. passport. The incident happened between 10:15 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. March 17.

Meanwhile, another property in Palms Circle was also entered and ransacked that afternoon.

Also over the weekend, police seized a 9mm pistol, 51 rounds of ammunition and three gun magazines were seized following a search of a property in Leeward Palms. Police gave no further details.

Police investigate cash missing from business

Detectives are investigating the theft a large amount of money from a liquor store in downtown Providenciales.

The money was discovered missing from Carib West on Old Airport Road at about 2:57 a.m. on March 19.

The cash had been placed in an office at 8 a.m. March 18.
