Reading Rush winners receive awards PDF Print E-mail

Winners of the Education Department’s Reading Rush Poster Competition sponsored by PPC Ltd. recently received their prizes at a ceremony at the Clement Howell High School.

The poster competition — “2010, Year for Reading: TCI, Join the Rush” — was opened to primary and secondary school students enrolled in private and government schools.

More than 70 entries were received, with the most primary school entries from Ona Glinton Primary School and the most secondary entries from Clement Howell High School.

The winners from all divisions were:

Primary School (ages 6-8)
First place: Amrita Rampersaud of Ona Glinton Primary
Second place: Jenequa Williams of Oseta Jolly Primary
Third place: Ashline Dorris of Ona Glinton Primary

Primary School (ages 9-10)
First place: Demetrius Hall of Ianthe Pratt Primary
Second place: Darne Williams of Ianthe Pratt Primary
Third place: Shelta Romulus of Eliza Simmons Primary

Primary School (ages 11-13)
First place: Angeline Maignon of Adelaide Oemler Primary
Second place: Leondra Role of Ianthe Pratt Primary
Third place: Franco Smith of Ianthe Pratt Primary

Secondary School (15 and under)
First place: Charlemagne Charles of Clement Howell High
Second place: Davidson Louis of British West Indies Collegiate
Third place: Tyson Romulus of the H.J. Robinson High

Secondary School (16 and over)
First place: Vanessa Velbur of Clement Howell High
Second place: McHenley Charles of Clement Howell High
Special mention was also given to four-year-old Michael Forbes of Eliza Simons Primary School.

Daphne Brooks-Penn, PPC’s manager of corporate services and company secretary, presented the students with their awards and encouraged them to share the joys of reading with their friends and family.

“You truly put a lot of thought in your designs, and through your creativity you were able to depict and highlight the ways we can all encourage and promote reading in the TCI,” Brooks-Penn said.

“At PPC we stand committed to investing in the local community and specifically we enjoy being an active sponsor in any event which promotes and encourages the development of our youth. PPC would like to thank the Ministry of Education for allowing us the opportunity to be part of positively shaping your minds and future.”
