Ianthe Pratt Primary School (IPPS) Junior Boys and Junior Girls combined their talents and gave an outstanding athletic performance to become the National Primary School Athletic Champions for the fourth year running.

The annual sports event was held at the National Stadium in Providenciales, and saw teams of junior boys and girls from 23 primary schools across the country competing in different athletic events to gain points for their team. The team with the most combined points at the end of the competition was declared the overall winner.

The IPPS team gained the most medals in sprint and relay events, and by the end of the two-day competition the boys and girls combined had collected the most points — 461 — against second-place winner Enid Capron Primary School — 437 points — to walk away with the overall cup.

IPPS Head Coach Paul Beckford said that it wasn’t all smooth sailing as training was tough and extra hours were diligently spent practicing his team before the nationals.

The whole IPPS staff is very proud of the achievement, most especially their new principal, Dara Thomas.

“I am very elated,” she said. “The team worked hard, and the athletes demonstrated a strong teamwork because there were also instances when some of our athletes did not qualify, and so the others worked harder to compensate for them. It was really a tough fight. At one point we were in third place, but the students really pulled it out together.”

Thomas gives credit to Beckford and the rest of the IPPS Sports Committee for focusing on training and bringing out the best in each child.

The principal also thanked IPPS parents for their generous support during their athletes’ training.

Here is the list of the top 10 schools after the two-day track and field competition on March 22-23 and their final scores:
