Good news was announced this week for local football/soccer fans.

WIV Managing Director Nigel Wardle recently announced in a joint media briefing with Digicel that WIV has secured the exclusive rights to the 2010 FIFA Word Cup matches to take place in South Africa this June.

“We are delighted to bring all the World Cup matches in the basic tier of our television cable service,” Wardle said. This means all WIV customers will have the opportunity to watch the matches from the comfort of their own home.

Wardle also noted the partnership between Digicel and WIV is just another way the two companies are working together to benefit the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The FIFA World Cup is the largest football tournament in the world, and FIFA is the Caribbean’s most watched sport, explained Digicel Marketing Director Ava-Dayne Kerr.

“Our sponsorship of FIFA 2010 World Cup is Digicel’s biggest in the history of Digicel,” she said they are proud to be apart of the exciting event.

Digicel has an ongoing FIFA campaign that culminates June 11 with one lucky Digicel customer heading off to the games on an all-expenses-paid trip courtesy of Digicel. Recent promotion winners Keyona Coward of North Caicos, Anthony Tatem of Grand Turk, Steve Dallas of Providenciales, and Sandra Hall and Katrina Lockhart of South Caicos are all one step closer to getting there.

These five Digicel customers participated in the “Football Treasures” promotion and won FIFA prizes along with phone credit. In order to qualify for the big trip to South Africa, customers had to top up $10 or more, or purchase a Blackberry handset.
