Commissioner of Police Edward Hall presided over a historic event Friday, June 11, officially opening The Royal Turks & Caicos Islands Police Training School on Grand Turk.
The project was an impressive undertaking by the police force, which was proudly represented by the commissioner at the event. Hall said he would have never pursued this effort, taking on the stress of renovating a building in such a terrible state, if it were not for the support he received. Hall said he took on the project without a grant or a budget from the government but “armed only with the determination and the commitment of the majority of officers and civilian staff of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands police force.” His Excellency the Gov. Gordon Wetherell was also present at the event to mark the momentous occasion. The governor said the training centre had his full support, and he hopes people across the islands will see in this institution an important asset for the islands. The facility will train officers in all areas of police work. Hall added that it has the advantage of offering a local perspective for recruits. The first round of 15 recruits is already on their way to becoming well trained, skilled Royal Turks and Caicos police officers, Hall said.
