Thanks to a refurbishment donation by the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association, two patrol ATVs are coming back into service this month to help prevent crime in Grace Bay.

The TCHTA took on the refurbishment project to help police get back to patrolling the beaches along Grace Bay, an effort they believe helps to prevent crime.

With crime an ongoing concern for the community and especially the tourism industry, the TCHTA has taken its role in supporting the police very seriously and says it is encouraged to help where it can.

“I am pleased to present once again ATVs to the police force in the TCI as part of an ongoing partnership with the police force,” said TCHTA CEO Caesar Campbell.

The ATVs were originally donated by the group some three years ago, but little by little suffered wear and tear mostly from salt water erosion and came completely out of service more than 18 months ago.

The TCHTA refurbished two of the ATVs and are using two for spare parts to ensure the ATVs can stay in constant service.

The group enlisted the help of Pierre Beswick, general manager of the Sands resort and TCHTA member, to oversea the refurbishment of the all-terrain vehicles. Beswick, a seasoned rally car racer, made sure the vehicles were in proper working order and gave officers an overview on how to run them and maintain them to keep them in the best working order.

He also expressed his gratitude to the police for working together with the group to help prevent crime and keep the TCI a safe a enjoyable place to live and vacation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Hubert Hughes said he was grateful for the TCHTA’s commitment to help the police fight crime in the TCI and particularly in the Grace Bay area. “We welcome the efforts to refurbish this ATV. I am sure it will go a long way in preventing crimes, particularly in Grace Bay.”

These beach patrol vehicles will now work in partnership with the electric patrol vehicle the group donated to the police last year. That vehicle, along with the new ATVs, will deploy from the new substation in the Saltmills Plaza, according to Assistant Commissioner Dave Ryder.
