Rented government office space was the target for potential savings at the latest meeting of the governor’s Advisory Council, and some offices will be changing locations.

The council met Sept. 3 with Desmond Wilson, Under Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, Works and Utilities, to discuss rented office space. The council requested more data “to inform decisions on achieving cost reductions and better value for money,” the council said in a statement.

The council also agreed that a rental unit headed by a Government Estate Manager should be established within the ministry.

Funding to retrofit the former Customs Department Office at South Base in Grand Turk for use by the Immigration Department was approved.

On Sept. 1, the customs headquarters in Grand Turk was relocated to Waterloo Plaza above Scotiabank.

The council also approved the start of retrofitting the Myrtle Rigby Clinic in Providenciales for use by Fire and Rescue Services, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and 911.

The Myrtle Rigby building on Leeward Highway received some cosmetic repairs last fall after tenders were invited in September to refurbish the complex, including installation of hurricane shutters and repairs to the roof.

The police station on Old Airport Road was condemned several years ago.
