Across the Turks and Caicos Islands we are blessed with beautiful artistry, much provided by mother nature, but also through local talent. To showcase this array of local artisans, the Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation is hosting the first ever TCFAF Art & Craft Expo 2010. This local artists’ showcase will be held Nov. 20 from 10 a.m-4 p.m. at the Turtle Cove Marina on Providenciales. The first event of its kind in the islands will showcase local talented artisans from across the TCI under one tented roof, according to organisers Lucie Winton Stubbs and Emma Halliday. “The idea is to bring budding local artists together to help showcase and promote their talents,” said Stubbs and Halliday. “The island has lots of ‘undiscovered’ artists from printmakers, painters, photographers, jewelry designers, sculptors and bakers … as well as our well-known established artists. We thought why not put them all in touch with one another with the hope that eventually we can create a fantastic visual arts community of which TCI would be proud. “We thought it was only natural to raise funds for the TCFAF … after helping to paint the sets of the ‘Little Caribbean Mermaid’ production the TCFAF hosted last year. We realized how much fun and enjoyment was had by all and that we needed to reconnect those artists.” The two enthusiastic organizers say they believe the Art & Craft Expo will be the launching pad for this concept. “It will truly be an ‘Art for the Family’ event, while helping to raise funds for the TCFAF,” they added. Enjoy refreshments and tasty treats to eat as well as live music as you browse the vast array of fantastic arts and crafts for sale. In addition to organizers and artists Stubbs and Halliday, other artists will include Alex Skye, Stacie Steensland Gaudet, Jackie Walker, Middle Caicos Co-op, Gem Braithwaite and Annie McCloud, to name just a few. Anyone wishing to take part should contact Stubbs or Halliday at
