Man, 19, held without bail in armed robbery PDF Print E-mail

Police have charged a 19-year-old Bahamian born Turks Islander with numerous offenses for allegedly robbing a Five Cays Road store at gunpoint and trying to carjack someone in the parking lot.

The robber, who police say is George Munroe, was shot by the attempted carjack victim with a legally registered firearm. The robber was treated for multiple wounds.

According to police, a male masked gunman robbed Faustino Store on Five Cays Road on Providenciales of a quantity of cash on Aug. 28. Then he went outside and tried to carjack a vehicle.

The robber discharged his firearm several times during the incident, but he was shot by a licensed firearm holder who the robber tried to shoot and carjack, police said.

George Munroe is charged with attempted murder, robbery, possession of firearm with intent to endanger life, two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent to commit a serious offence, possession of ammunition with intent to enable endangerment of life and unlawful possession of explosives.

Munroe appeared in Providenciales Magistrate’s Court on Oct. 20 and was remanded in custody at Her Majesty’s Prison on Grand Turk.
