 The Graceway Sports Center served up a double dose of competition last weekend during its first Doubles Tennis Tournament.Still reeling from the success of its second singles tournament for the year earlier in the month, the Graceway Sports Center held its first doubles tournament by popular demand. “Many players asked us to add a doubles tournament to the calendar, and we were happy to do so,” tennis coach Reinaldo Rivera Garcia told the fp. Twelve teams competed in the three-day tournament, including eight women and four men’s teams. It was a nail-biter on the women’s side where Marilyn Cooper, who won the women’s singles title earlier in the year, and partner Andrea Todd played against Team Executive Tours in the finals. The Executive Tours team of sisters Betty Missick and Nancy Missick-Rolle made Cooper and Todd sweat to the finish, but despite their impressive efforts took home the second place trophy with Cooper and Todd placing first. The men’s team of Leigh Sterzl and Yuval Botansky went undefeated in the tournament to take the first Men’s Doubles First Place trophy. Winners also received tennis balls and strings courtesy of the Graceway Sports Center. “We are very happy about the response, and we look forward to the next tournament,” Rivera said. The next singles tournament will take place Dec. 3-5.
