Introduction of the Shift System for Government Schools in Grand Turk PDF Print E-mail

On Sunday, November 21, 2010, fire destroyed nine (9) classrooms and other facilities at the Ona Glinton Primary School, displacing 312 students and their teachers. In an effort to establish some degree of normalcy in the shortest possible time, the Ministry and Department of Education, in dialogue with their major stakeholders, will implement a shift system at the Eliza Simons Primary School, beginning Monday, Nov. 29.

Shift 1
7:30 a.m.-noon
Eliza Simons Primary School’s Grades 2 to 6 students must report for this shift. Eliza Simons Primary School’s K1, K2 and Grade 1 students will report at 8 a.m.-noon.

Shift 2
12:30 p.m.-5 p.m.
Ona Glinton Primary School’s Grades 2 to 6 students must report to the Eliza Simons Primary School’s for this shift.  Ona Glinton Primary School’s K1, K2 and Grade 1 students are asked to report to the Salem Baptist Church at 8 a.m.-noon.

Transportation
Transportation will be provided for the second shift, to students who are in need. The pickup points are:
1. Ona Glinton Primary School, 11:45 a.m.
2. Overback, Nathaniel Francis Recreation Park, noon

After school drop off
Parents/Guardians are asked to collect their children at Ona Glinton at 5:15 p.m. and at the Overback, Nathaniel Francis Recreation Park at 5:30 p.m.

The entire community is being asked to support this new shift system, as together we strive to improve standards in education.
