Invading Providenciales’ Downtown Street on New Year’s morning, with an adrenalin rush of colourful costumes and dancing driven by the rhythm of goatskin drums, cowbells, horns and an assortment of brass instruments, were the Kingdom Warriors, We Funk and Predators Junkanoo Groups.

Junkanoo on New Year’s Day has been a history long celebration of music and dancing throughout the Bahamas, which is culturally embraced by the populace of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Starting the spectacle with the theme “Out of Egypt” were the Kingdom Warriors Junkanoo group, which is at present the largest group in Turks and Caicos Islands. The Kingdom Warriors are the Junkanoo group of Five Cay’s Rock of Jesus (ROJ) Ministries, which is guided by Bishop Bryant Cox and Pastor Charmaine Cox.

“This is our second parade and we worship God and praise God for allowing us to be free and seeing yet another year.  We are proud to say that our group has grown, the music has solidified and our objective is to worship and glorify God,” Kingdom Warriors Director said Renee Lewis.
