![]() Established in 1981, the reggae band Willin Prophets consists of blood brothers Neil, Leon, Vernon and the late Bernard Seymour. They all hail from the Turks and Caicos Islands and have graced stages across California. The band, which saw its first commercial debut in 1983 with the release of songs “Innocent Man” and “Unity” from their Dreadness album, have recently re-released their music collection. “One of my brothers are in South Caicos, he is the drummer and a lot of people keep asking him for the songs on our albums, especially ‘Innocent Man’ because they never really had a chance to get a CD copy,” said Neil Seymour. “That is what inspired me.” Committed to developing and using a cache of talent since the untimely death of band member Bernard “Naddy” Seymour on June 16, 1988, the Willin Prophets are devoted to leaving a legacy of roots and reggae music for the islands to enjoy. One song, “Tribute to Jags McCartney” — dedicated to the country’s first chief minister — is a poignant chronicle of his life and controversial death. Willin Prophets hopes through the re-release of their album that a new generation will be able to enjoy and appreciate their music. Willin Prophets’ music can be purchased at www.cdbaby.com/artist/willinprophets and on iTunes. |
