The colours of the Turks and Caicos Islands are being celebrated this year in the 2011 PPC calendar now available to the public.

For the third year, PPC Ltd. has produced a vibrant calendar highlighting the cultural heritage of the country.

To honour the occasion, the country’s major electric utility presented two framed copies of the picturesque calendar to the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture on Thursday (Feb 3. ).

PPC Corporate Service Manager  Daphne Penn explained that the reason for the gift was to honour the ministry for the job it has done and continue to do to keep culture alive in the TCI. She added that she hopes the yearly calendar project will become synonymous with PPC.

“I am certainly delighted PPC has this year focused its calendar on highlighting not only colours of the Turks and Caicos, but through the colours showcasing our culture,” said Sonia Williams, under secretary for the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture. She said the ministry appreciates PPC’s support through the calendar in educating the youth “about what our culture really is.”

Director of Culture David Bowen, who was also present to accept the gift, said, “I am honoured to see how the colours of our national costume have made their way into a beautiful calendar.” He also thanked PPC and those who helped to find such beautiful photographs of the country.

The dozen photographs for the calendar were provided by Christine Morden of Paradise Photography and Steve Passmore of Provo Pictures. A photo for each month represents one of the many unique colours that make up the TCI. They also showcase many of the historic and alluring places throughout all the family islands.
