![]() The Sandals Foundation, the charitable arm of Beaches Resort, presented a $10,000 check to Turks and Caicos Islands education officials to help rebuild the Ona Glinton Primary School on Grant Turk. On Nov. 21, just days after a devastating fire destroyed the primary school in the nation’s capital, the Sandals Foundation made a pledge to the Education Department to raise $10,000 to support the rebuilding of the school. The resort and the foundation dedicated two months of fundraising to the charitable cause by declaring December and January as Ona Glinton Charity months. Foundation officials launched a huge property awareness campaign aimed at raising funds by encouraging both guests and staff to donate to the cause. Fundraisers included charity bingo, charity volleyball and special events all hosted in collaboration with the resort’s Entertainment Department. Director of Education Edgar Howell, who accepted the donation on behalf of the school, expressed his gratitude to the foundation. “This donation, through guest support is testament of your commitment to the intellectual, personal and social development of our children,” he said. The November fire severely damaged the primary school, destroying nine classrooms, a computer lab, the education office and the school canteen, displacing the entire school population of 312 students and several teachers. “The Sandals Foundation was established to make a difference in the lives of others by enhancing education,” said foundation Director Heidi Clarke. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the Ona Glinton Primary School and to present this donation of $10,000 towards the rebuilding of the school.” The foundation has been working hard throughout the country to support the local schools while promoting education. In addition to sponsoring two of the largest government schools in the TCI, the foundation has also been actively working to improve the islands through its community commitment and environmental outreach.
