The Turks and Caicos Islands’ main tourism agencies — the Tourist Board and the Hotel and Tourism Association — teamed up recently to further promote the tourism product in the Big Apple.

The Tourist Board, the TCHTA and three of its members — Villa Renaissance, Regent Palms and Point Grace — attended the 8th Annual New York Times Travel Show in February, giving more than 17,000 interested travellers the opportunity to take advantage of planning and booking vacations to the islands earlier in the year.

The travel show held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City allowed visitors to explore more than 500 destinations across the globe in one day.

“Attendance at the travel show has increased significantly from last year, and this is a clear indication that the U.S. economy is rebounding,” said TCHTA’s President Karen Whitt. “Persons have more buying power, and their interest in travelling to destinations like Turks and Caicos has grown.”

“The northeast, in particular New York and the tri-state area, continues to be our major market source, and we anticipate that this market will continue to grow, thanks to the JetBlue and Continental airlift from these gateways, as well as the continued service from American Airlines,” Whitt said.
