Islandcom is hosting a scholastic inspired contest that aims to motivate, educate and give first-hand working experience to one lucky high school student in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Contestants are asked to submit an essay on a selected topic no later than June 3. The contest is open to all national high school students ages 16 and older from any TCI high school.

Islandcom will then select three finalists to move to the next stage of the contest, in which finalists will create a marketing or sales campaign designed to increase Islandcom’s mobile subscriptions and communicate its services and products to the public.

Shortlisted contestants will be invited as VIP guests to Islandcom’s Battle of the Bands Concert on June 25, where the grand prize winner will be announced. The winning student will get a six-week paid internship at Islandcom and receive first-hand training in each department in the local telecom business.

“Islandcom has always participated in the sponsorship of its community, specifically education,” said Islandcom CEO Kate Bonner. “We feel obligated to help empower young TCI minds, and what better way than to present them with on-the-job training and give them an idea of how local companies operate.

“We encourage young post secondary graduates to consider the telecom business as a viable and exciting career option in the future. There are so many facets in this industry that will surely satisfy any career goals.”

The winner will also receive a 3G phone with one year of Islandcom’s lightening fast 3G service.
