The Youth Chorale dazzled audiences last Saturday afternoon at the Edward Gartland Youth Centre with their remarkable performance.

The young students swooned the crowd with their incredible voices, and their dedication to the chorale radiated from their talent.

The young singers resonated songs such as “Seasons of Love” from the movie RENT and “Don’t Stop Believing.” Gabriella Aquino impressed the audience with her piano performance of “Yesterday” by John Lennon. Harmonious solos by Millie Twigg, Brusnite Jean Louis and Bernice Brown left the audience with goose bumps.

Marilyn Cooper was the master of ceremonies for the evening, and she spoke about what the world would be like without music. She stated that although sports and other recreational activities are essential for today’s youths, music is equally as vital and helps them become more self confident and well rounded.

The chorale began in 2007 with the assistance of Dr. Carlton Mills, then minister of Education, Culture and Sports, along with Addison Stoddard, Wendy Hayward and Kay Weir, all talented and experienced musicians, who had a desire to share their expertise with the youth of the Turks and Caicos Islands by volunteering to form a youth chorale.

Over the years, the chorale has performed at various functions, such as the Nutcracker, Cancer Society celebrations, governor’s Christmas party and Christmas Eve celebrations at Seven Stars Resort.

The dedicated chorale practices once a week at the Youth Center with leadership from their piano teacher Hayward and vocal coach Stoddard, with support from Cooper.

The chorale is open to all youth of the TCI and is always looking for new members. If you are between the ages of 10 and 19 and love to sing, you can join in on Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. at the Youth Centre. For more information, call 331-7176.
