Of late, even before I went as a part of the delegation to the U.K. for Constitutional talks in June, I have had some very harsh criticisms leveled at me. I would just like to say to the good minded people who know me and know what I stand for, that they would see beyond the vile depictions, accusations and outright lies that have been said about me in the various press statements, Internet blogs, in conversations and over the Expressions Radio Show, etc. I went to the U.K. Constitutional talks with an open mind; I sought to provide input towards a Constitution that I thought best for the people and country at this time in our history. Before I went to the U.K., I attended the town hall meeting held in Providenciales and listened via radio and television to all the meetings held throughout the islands, in addition, I called numerous persons, men and women across the political spectrum that I have the utmost respect for and sought their views. I would like to make it clear that, at no time did I ask for a foreigner to be the deputy governor or for his/her role to be a ceremonial role, at no time did I argued for same sex marriage. It has been said by the leader and officers of the PDM party that my espoused views showed a hatred towards the people; this in itself is nothing but mischief making on the part of some who wish to cast me in a bad light. The unfortunate thing about it, is that I cannot control what is said about me or written about me, I cannot control what people choose to believe about me, but I do know that my enemies will stop at nothing to try and destroy me and will use whatever means they have to in their efforts. But I say to the two gentlemen issuing the Press Statement, the cowards who write under assumed names and to those who call in to Expressions to criticize me, that you will NEVER get the best of me. I am motivated by criticisms, it is through the criticisms that I have received over the years that has helped to propel me to achieving the successes that I enjoy today. I never have and never will allow anyone to define where I should be or put me in my place as they say. To those persons who feel that by continuing on in their unwarranted attacks against me that it would help to bolster their image and convince the voting public that they are leadership material then I seek not to discourage them. However, I would encourage them to learn from past mistakes, we are at a very crucial time in our history, people do not want to be bothered by the pettiness and personal attacks that have become such a hallmark of their campaign message rather would prefer to deal with the real issues affecting the country. To those of you who have called or written to me expressing your solidarity, I thank you for your support, and to my husband, children, friends, and some of my siblings I say thanks for standing by me. My faith in God will take me through: Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise; for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue. … I give myself unto prayer.
