In an effort to inform the public and help fight crime, police have launched a website that includes press releases, downloadable forms and other helpful information.

“The launching of this website today demonstrates the commitment of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force to deliver quality service in all the activities of policing to ensure the safety and security of the citizens and visitors to the Turks and Caicos Islands, and to strengthen police-community relations,” police said in a Sept. 1 press release.

“This website is also indicative of our commitment to using technology to share information with the public about what we are doing and how we are providing service.”

Police said the idea for the website came from recently retired Commissioner Edward Hall “who believed that such a tool could be invaluable in enhancing service to our communities.”

The website has telephone numbers, locations and e-mail addresses for the various police stations, as well as organizational charts and biographies of the leaders of the force.

A large portion of the site is aimed at recruiting new officers, explaining in detail the job requirements and the process for becoming an officer. Applications for jobs can be downloaded from the site.

Also on the site are forms required to obtain a police record report required for work permit holders, in English, Spanish and Creole.

Community policing is also a major feature on the site, explaining how it can be one of the most valuable tools in fighting crime.

The site was a collaborative effort of police and the Information Technology Department.

“To the police officers and the civilian staff who gathered all the information necessary to move the idea to completion, we express our sincere appreciation,” police said.
