New interim government Chief Financial Officer Hugh McGarel-Groves has met with the Chamber of Commerce on Grand Turk to talk about development and cooperation. “I was pleased to meet this week with the Executive Director Glen Clark and President Designate Pedro Ariza of the Grand Turk Chamber of Commerce and to hear their views on development prospects for the Grand Turk business community and the Turks and Caicos Islands in general,” McGarel-Groves said. “We discussed various possible avenues for working together of mutual benefit. “The business community has a major role to play in helping to restore economic growth and stability to the TCI, and this process can only be enhanced by this type of dialogue between their representative body and government. “As indicated when I assumed this position a few weeks ago, TCI has been making progress in working its way out of the deep financial crisis of recent years, but the effort must be sustained to overcome the challengers which still lie ahead and keep the TCI on the path to long term economic prosperity.” McGarel-Groves was appointed by the U.K. Foreign and Commonwealth office for two years to oversee TCI finances. He was the former chief financial officer of Jersey, taking over here in September from former CFO Caroline Gardner.
