A businessman was shot and wounded when he was robbed of an unknown amount of money around 8 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Market Place on Leeward Highway, police said. Police said the man struggled during the robbery and was shot in the left shoulder. His injuries were not life threatening. “The police are asking that individuals and businesses to take necessary precautions to deter incidents of this nature and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the police,” police said in a statement. Police seek help in solving jewelry stolen during Irene Police are asking the public’s assistance regarding a burglary at Gold Smith Jewelry on Grand Turk that occurred the night of Aug. 23 as Hurricane Irene passed by. Stolen were jewelry, watches, chains, cameras, bracelets with an estimated value of approximately $100,000. Police are warning people not to buy any of these types of items from illegitimate sources. “This type of behavior if detected will result in prosecution,” police said. Police warn public about rising theft of copper wire Police say they have identified an emerging crime trend in the Turks and Caicos Islands with the theft of copper wire. “Although this activity has been ongoing throughout the Caribbean where hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of copper are reported stolen yearly, it has now found its way to the Turks and Caicos Islands,” police said. Grand Turk man charged with possession of cannabis Police on Grand Turk have charged a man with possession of 69 grams of cannabis. Officers were conducting an operation targeting drug related offences Sept. 28. when they arrested a man from Back Salina in the Harbor House. The man was charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply.
