Drivers urged to keep emergency entrances clear PDF Print E-mail

InterHealth Canada officials say people are parking their cars at the emergency entrances of hospitals on Grand Turk and Providenciales, blocking ambulances rushing patients to treatment.

“On a number of occasions, ambulances have not been able to make their way to the emergency department entrance doors and delays like that could result in people losing their lives,” Dr. Denise Braithwaite, head of the Emergency Department.

Hospital chiefs say they will be forced to get tough with offenders if the problem continues.

“While we empathise with people who come to the hospitals concerned about injured or sick relatives and friends, they must park their vehicles in the parking lots provided,” Braithwaite said.

“We have no objection to people coming to the emergency department entrance to drop off patients who are unable to walk from the car park, but the driver must immediately move the vehicle to an approved parking place and not leave it at the (emergency) entrance,” she said.
