Air Rally takes off, lands in Turks and Caicos
Friday, 23 March 2012 09:24

The Turks and Caicos Islands will be the official starting and ending point for the Canadian Governor General’s Cup Caribbean Air Challenge in April.

Pilots from seven different countries onboard 20 aircraft will compete in skills including general knowledge and aviation skills, way point identification during flight, navigation and technical tests, precision landings and flight time evaluation.

The event begins at 3 p .m. April 13 at the JAGS McCartney International Airport on Grand Turk. His Excellency the Gov. Ric Todd will host a reception for the participants over the weekend.

The rally will end April 26 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Providenciales International Airport.

Pilots will cross seven borders in a 15-day period. Visited destinations are preparing for ground competitions, an opportunity for pilots from different countries to meet and interact with the local population, understanding their culture, learning about the history and the people.

The event is presented by Aviation Connection, a not for profit organisation and official trustee of the Canadian Governor General’s Cup. The annual rally presents an opportunity for young aspiring professional pilots to come onboard free of charge, thanks to the support of Bombardier and Aviation Connection grants.

Turks and Caicos young people, particularly those with an interest in aviation, are invited to meet the participants, who will take them for a visit of their aircraft.
