Having a peer make a name for himself in the big world of fashion is exciting and inspiring for local youth, particularly when he takes the time to share his tips for success along the way. Turks and Caicos Islands’ own fashion designer and photographer Kazz Forbes of Saint George Fashion House spent some time at the Clement Howell High School this week as part of the institution’s Career Day 2012. Forbes, who recently facilitated an eight-week after school fashion club program at the Edward C. Gartland Youth Center, spoke to nearly 300 third form students on the topics of “What is Fashion Design?” and Fashion Careers.” Under the theme “Dream. Explore. Discover: Your Path to the Future,” the school’s Career Day sensitizes the various career opportunities existing in the TCI and the wider Caribbean. The objective of this annual exercise is to assist students in making informed and important career choices. In an effort to achieve these goals, individuals from various sectors are invited to make presentations about career opportunities in their field. “It was indeed an honor and a privilege to speak to the students, providing knowledge on what is fashion and careers in fashion and encouraging them to set goals and to follow their dreams, at such an early and important time of their lives,” Forbes said. News on Forbes’ accomplishments makes the rounds locally, where islanders take pride in his success. This is particularly true among youth who cheered for several minutes as Forbes made his way to the podium to speak. It is this sort of enthusiasm that keeps Forbes reaching for the stars, as well as his belief that others will follow in his footsteps of following their own dreams. “That spirit … is indeed a signal of excitement and eagerness within that body of students to endeavor to be a success,” Forbes said.
