Suffering headaches? You are not alone
Wednesday, 13 June 2012 17:42

At one time or another almost everyone suffers from a headache. There are many different types of headaches such as hypertension headaches, migraine headaches, and traumatic headaches.

Usually, when a patient complains of headache pain, they are not talking of just one headache or even a headache now and then. It is when the headaches are severe and chronic (that occur again and again over an extended period of time) that an individual presents the problem to their chiropractor.

As chronic headaches can involve many different factors, they can pose a challenge to specific diagnosis and a definitive treatment.

Commonly, people who complain of chronic headaches are diagnosed as having vascular headaches (headaches related to the body’s blood supply), muscle tension headaches or a type of headache that is a combination of both. Vascular headaches are most frequently of the migraine type.

There are three general types of migraine headaches.

  • Common migraine: Usually a severe type of headache that pains one side of the head.
  • Classic migraine: A severe one-sided head pain that goes on to affect the entire head.
  • Cluster migraine: Usually a one-sided head pain that goes from a simple headache to severe pain in a matter of minutes.

Muscle tension headaches are associated with physical and emotional tension. This emotion can be a happy or unhappy one; that is you can have emotional tension from being deliriously happy just as readily s you can from something that makes you unhappy.

This kind of headaches usually feels like a tight band around the head and involves both sides of the head.

A diagnosis requires a patient to provide a good history of the problem. If you have experienced severe headaches over an extended period of time, make an appointment with your chiropractor to be diagnosed and treated for your specific type of headache.

Don’t second-guess your health or your comfort. Find out what causes your chronic headache.
