The Turks and Caicos Islands Rugby Football Union recently welcomed a special guest who was not only the speaker at their presidents dinner, but also gave players of all ages tips on how to play the game.

Retired rugby pro Colin Charvis joined in several youth and adults trainings as a guest of the TCIRFU. Charvis, a former captain of the Welsh national rugby union team, said he was happy for the opportunity to work with the local youth. Trainings were held at both the Meridian Field and on the beach.

The Wales player was the sixth professional player to come to TCI to both train and play with local players and speak at the Annual Presidents and Oval Ball.

An interesting and humourous speaker, Charvis told stories of working his way up through the ranks and receiving a letter from Nelson Mandela, who said he was proud of his accomplishment as the first black captain. He also shared a few war stories of his favorite games, keeping the more than 100 guests entertained.

Funds raised from the event will be used to continue to support efforts to promote youth rugby in the TCI. This summer the TCIRFU has sponsored three students to attend the Leicester Academy in England and 12 youth to play several matches in Canada.
