A $2 million dollar expansion of its Kimono’s Japanese restaurant and its kids’ camp facilities by Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort Villages and Spa is set to provide at least 50 construction jobs and promises to create 35 permanent jobs upon completion. General Manager Donald Dagenais says that once completed, the two expansion projects will require professionals from an array of fields. “We will need chefs, service professionals, management staff, and stewarding practitioners for the restaurant, and for the kids facility we will need more child care professionals. So lots of opportunities for young people who are interested in a tourism career,” Dagenais said. The general manager of the 633-room resort believes the expansions will further heighten the Beaches’ product offering and make the country’s overall profile more attractive. His comments come as tourism destinations pursue new methods to lure more penny-wise tourist to their shores. “The needs and wants of tourists are ever evolving and therefore to be successful in this business where customers are full of choice, hotels and destinations need to keep adjusting our products and services to suit the times,” Dagenais said. “For the first time, we will be able to offer large families and groups of friends up to parties of 24 a teppanaki dining experience for their special occasions. We will also take a kids vacation experience in Turks and Caicos to a whole new level with some of the improvements we are making with the expansion at the kids’ camp facility. It will be at least a third bigger than presently and will boast modern child-care offerings and the very latest safety standards,” He continued.” Beaches is currently the island’s largest private sector employer with 1,245 employees on its payroll, and the expansions comes at a time when the latest unemployment statistics of the department of economic planning and statistics suggests that 8 percent of the 23,438 labour-force is unemployed.
