The Ministry of Environment and Home Affairs and the Treasury Department have announced that they launched an investigation into irregularities in general management of the District Administration’s Office on Salt Cay. According to the department, investigations were launched June 15 and are still ongoing. “Measures are being put in place to strengthen the controls for the collection of revenue and for the general management and administration of the District Commissioners’ Offices throughout the islands,” the department said in a June 21 statement. The ministry says it is also actively pursuing the creation of “one stop shops” on the family islands, a concept which came about after consultation with the residents of the various islands. The initiative is expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in the delivery of critical services. “It will also result in the implementation of strong management teams and encourage greater synergies between ministries to ensure accountability and transparency in the transaction of government business,” government said.
