A successful charity concert held May 25 at the Healing Water’s Ministries sanctuary on Millennium Highway, raising $8,570 which was donated to the cancer associations of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The National Cancer Society and the Turks and Caicos Cancer Foundation each received a cheque for $4,285 from the Blue Hills-based ministry.

Receiving the cheque for the Turks and Caicos Cancer Foundations were the children of the late Anita Porter, founder of the foundation.

“We want to thank the Music Department of the Healing Water’s Ministries for their kind gesture of such a donation and for honoring my mother at the grand event last month,” said Green-Porter.

“The fight to eliminate cancer is an ongoing struggle,” added Lillian Misick, the current president of the TCI Cancer Foundation. “This entire nation needs to unite in its struggle against this disease. Those of you who have experienced cancer, we encourage you to share your stories honestly and bravely so that others may be encouraged.”

On hand to accept the donation for the National Cancer Society were Paul Mitchell and Elena Patrick, who together gave the assurance that the much needed funds will go a long way toward raising awareness in the TCI.

Head of the church’s music department, Elery James, also unveiled plans for its upcoming fundraiser, “Beyond the Blue,” an all blue concert under the theme “Exercising Faith and Giving Thanks.” This event intends to raise $10,000 for the Turks and Caicos Kidney Foundation and Turks and Caicos Diabetes Foundation to be held in August.

“We are our brother’s keeper, and together we can ensure an acceptable standard of living for those who need it most,” James said.
