![]() The distinguished World Travel Awards which focus on the travel and tourism industry will be once again be hosted in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Sept. 14 at Beaches Turks& Caicos Resort Villages and spa. The awards which were described by the Wall Street Journal as the Oscars of the global travel and tourism industry, recognizes the very best of the travel industry and is one of the few travel awards that is voted for by travel professionals from travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organizations across the globe. The red-carpet ceremony will include a gourmet dinner, entertainment, as well as the presentation of the coveted awards. Decision-makers from leading travel organisations across the Caribbean and Americas are scheduled to attend the gala evening. “We are delighted to be hosting our Caribbean and The Americas Ceremony 2012 in Turks & Caicos, a paradise destination currently enjoying a surge in tourism arrivals,” said WTA President & Founder Graham E Cooke. “The nation is entering an exciting new chapter in its history, and tourism will play an even greater role in its economic evolution.” Gordon “Butch” Stewart, Chairman of Sandals and Beaches Resorts, said he is thrilled to host the awards. “There is no better event that epitomizes the incredible products of the travel and tourism industry than the World Travel Awards,” Stewart said. “These awards recognize the best in the travel industry while also celebrating the rich diversity of the nominees: their culture, heritage and people,” said Director of Tourism Ralph Higgs. “Our destination is poised for success as the global economic recovery begins to take shape and with WTA taking place here, it signifies to the world that the Turks and Caicos Islands is open for business, ready to provide a unique travel experience for all.” The WTA were established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. Today, the WTA brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark in travel and tourism. The 2012 Caribbean and The Americas Ceremony marks the second leg of WTA’s Grand Tour, a global search for the world’s leading travel brands. The winners of these legs will then go head-to-head at WTA’s Grand Final, which takes place in New Delhi, India on Dec. 12.
