On Wednesday, September 23nd 2009 the Advisory Council held their fourth meeting in Grand Turk. The council met to consider further proposals for the 2009/2010 Budget; the issue of squatters in Providenciales; and, for the right to petition to the European Court of Human Rights to be extended to the Turks and Caicos Islands indefinitely.
Increased attempts by local Special Police Immigration Customs Enforcement (SPICE) officers, particularly in Providenciales, to implement immigration law enforcement have been accompanied by a troubling rise in complaints of harassment, which resulted to halting a portion of the raid operations temporarily.
