On Wednesday, September 23nd 2009 the Advisory Council held their fourth meeting in Grand Turk. The council met to consider further proposals for the 2009/2010 Budget; the issue of squatters in Providenciales; and, for the right to petition to the European Court of Human Rights to be extended to the Turks and Caicos Islands indefinitely.
Increased attempts by local Special Police Immigration Customs Enforcement (SPICE) officers, particularly in Providenciales, to implement immigration law enforcement have been accompanied by a troubling rise in complaints of harassment, which resulted to halting a portion of the raid operations temporarily. 
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so the saying goes. However, when opinions start running through a mill and coming out the other end seeming to be facts, the results can be damaging for all those involved. 
Taxes and the governmental budget area serious issues for the Provo chamber of Commerce; while in fact the decisions made in relation to taxes affect them, the local business owners, directly.
